PROPOSAL SUBMISSION INFORMATION
BIOP invites proposals for presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and alternative sessions that align with our mission of empowering Black professionals as well as the conference theme of fostering forward-thinking workplace practices and organizations. We are seeking submissions that cover a range of topics related to I/O Psychology (see below for a list of example topics). Proposals should be focused on providing the latest in research and practice with actionable insights for attendees to implement in their work. Please note at least one BIOP member is required per submission.
Potential topics for the call for proposal overview based on the 2024 work trends:
- Exploring the Impact of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Automation on The Future of Work
- Building and Sustaining Inclusive Company Cultures
- Employee Well-being and Mental Health in the Workplace
- Collecting, Analyzing, and Reporting Workforce Metrics and Data to Measure Impact and Drive Decisions
- Best Practices in Leadership Development and Coaching
- Building and Sustaining Successful Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
- Rethinking Talent Strategies That Actually Work (e.g. attraction, hiring, training, retention, engagement, etc...)
- Creating Impactful Performance Management and Feedback Processes
- The Future of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace
- The Realities of Being an I/O Psychologist (e.g., academia, government, applied research, entrepreneurship, etc...)
- Globalization of the Workplace
Actionable Strategies and insights presenters can include in their proposal:
- Provide case studies, scenarios, and examples of real-world situations that attendees may encounter in their work and demonstrate practical solutions for addressing them.
- Offer hands-on workshops that provide attendees with practical tools and techniques to implement in their work, such as assessments, surveys, and other measurement tools.
- Share data, research, and evidence-based practices that demonstrate the effectiveness of various strategies related to Industrial Organizational Psychology and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Encourage attendees to collaborate and exchange knowledge with one another through networking sessions, roundtable discussions, or other interactive activities.
- Highlight success stories and best practices from other organizations, industries, or fields that can inspire attendees to try new approaches in their own work.
- Offer post-conference resources such as follow-up webinars, articles, or other materials that can help attendees continue their learning and development after the conference.
- Emphasize the importance of self-care, mindfulness, and resilience for Industrial Organizational Psychologists, and provide practical tips and tools for managing stress, burnout, and other challenges in the workplace.
- Encourage attendees to take action and be advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion in their workplaces, and provide practical strategies for influencing change and driving progress.
In your submission, you will select a Research, Practitioner, or Hybrid Track.
- Research Track: This session type shares findings or facilitates discussion on the results of a research study, with supporting academic literature.
- Practitioner Track: This session type shares information or facilitates discussion around challenges, learnings, best practices, etc. in practitioner settings.
- Hybrid Track: This session type shares findings from applied research or facilitates discussion spanning across research and practice.
You will also select a session format that best fits your submission type. You may select any format, regardless of track selected.
- Presentation: Formalized summary/sharing of information using visuals, graphics, and other forms of media.
- Workshop: Less formal, more interactive summary/sharing of information using visuals, graphics, and other forms of media, with the possible addition of learning activities.
- Panel discussion: Panel discussion with other researchers about the same or related topic(s).
- Alternative session: Other session formats that do not fall into any of the above categories. If selecting this format, please ensure to include a clear description of your session format in your submission document
RATING CRITERIA:
- Innovation: The extent to which the proposal offers new and innovative ideas, approaches, or solutions to challenges related to Industrial/Organizational Psychology. (6 points)
- Impact: The extent to which the proposal has the potential to advance the field of Industrial/Organizational Psychology and/or make a significant impact in organizations. (6 points)
- Relevance: The extent to which the proposal aligns with the conference themes and addresses relevant and current issues related to Industrial/Organizational Psychology. (5 points)
- Clarity: The extent to which the proposal is clear, concise, and well-organized, with a clear structure and presentation of ideas. (5 points)
- Research: The extent to which the proposal is grounded in relevant and rigorous research and draws from a variety of credible sources to support its arguments and recommendations. A minimum of three APA references required for each submission. (7 points for Research / 5 points for Hybrid / 3 points for Practitioner)
- Practicality: The extent to which the proposal offers practical strategies, tools, and insights that attendees can apply in their work and make a tangible impact in their organizations. (3 points for Research / 5 points for Hybrid / 7 points for Practitioner)
- Interactivity: The extent to which the proposal includes interactive and engaging activities, such as case studies, group discussions, or hands-on workshops, that facilitate learning and knowledge-sharing among attendees. (3 points)
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): The extent to which the proposal demonstrates a strong commitment to DEI principles and practices, including a focus on issues related to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and other aspects of diversity. (3 points)
